Two of the world’s greatest athletes met on Wednesday in plenty of spectacle on one of sport’s greatest stages.

No, we’re not talking about the LeBron James vs. Ja Morant duel. We’re also not talking about the epic battle between Stephen Curry and Jayson Tatum on the hardwood floors of TD Garden.

Rather, the matchup that took the sports world by storm revolved around two world-class sprinters: Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles and 19-year-old YouTube supernova IShowSpeed.

On Wednesday night they put on a racing performance for the ages. Luckily for us, there were cameras that recorded every step as it happened.

Lyles and Speed tested their wits in an unknown location, battling for speed superiority over a 50-meter distance.

Prize? Eternal glory… and a $100,000 payout from famous YouTuber Mr. Beast.

For the first 25 meters or so, Speed and Lyles neutralized each other as they raced stride for stride down the claret track. At the 30m mark, Lyles found his form, outclassing the 19-year-old Speed to take the win – and all the prize money that came with it.

After completing the race, Lyles offered to give Speed some instructions and run it with the teenager at the end of the week, this time for 100 meters.

“You should train with me and then at the end of the week we’ll race again,” Lyles told Speed on broadcast (by using NBC 10 Philadelphia). “…You will be faster, you will know what to do, you will have technique, you will have an advantage. And then we will be able to run a real men’s 100-meter race.”

Speed, with no formal training, continued to claim that he was superior to Lyle in pure speed.

“I’ve never run track a day in my life,” Speed said. “Like, bro, at pure speed I’m faster than you. At pure speed.”

Lyles wasn’t too convinced.

“You?” Lyles replied knowingly. “…I haven’t even hit top speed.”

“You took off 30 meters before the finish. I was looking at you, bro. Because I had time, you know?”
