The 2024 election results don’t just resemble Trump’s 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton. They are almost identical

In the end, Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election was decided. across Wisconsin, just as it was eight years ago in the presidential race against Hillary Clinton.

Clinton was the favorite to win the White House in 2016, and her loss sent shock waves across the country and the world.

This year’s results and how election night went are not only reminiscent of race 2016 – it was almost identical.

Republican sociologist Frank Luntz said just six days ago that the 2024 presidential election “reminded him a lot of 2016.”

“I think there are a lot of similarities now between this campaign and that campaign,” Luntz told CNN’s Sarah Sidner. “At that time, the divisions in the country were significant, people did not think that Trump had a chance. He keeps gaining and gaining.”

In 2016, it was Trump’s landslide victory in the Electoral College. with 304 votes compared to Clinton’s 227. If you look at the 2024 election map, America will get 295 votes for Trump and 226 for Vice President Kamala Harris. Nevada and Arizona have not yet been named.

The 2024 map—minus the yet-to-be-named states—looks nearly identical to the 2016 version, except for the 2024 vote split in Nebraska.

Trump won Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania in both 2016 and 2024. These were the states that Joe Biden carried in 2020 to secure his victory.

The similarities between the Clinton and Harris campaigns in 2024 extend beyond the map.

Eight years ago, Clinton appeared to be gaining momentum after a star-studded Election Day rally in North Carolina, featuring performances from Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga. This reflected Harris Stages in Philadelphia, again with support from Gaga, Oprah Winfrey and Katy Perry.

Election night 2024 began the same way it did eight years ago. Around 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, Kentucky and Indiana called for Trump, while Vermont was called Harris. The same states and the same results were named first in the 2016 race.

It didn’t take me long for the red mirage to come into focus in both races.

JD Vance’s home state is Ohio. — then a swing state — was called by Trump this year around the same time it turned red eight years ago, at 10:35 p.m. Clinton made progress in the final weeks of the race in the Buckeye State, but it wasn’t enough.

Harris was never expected to take Ohio, but after the uproar over unfounded Republican rumors Haitian migrants ‘eating people’s pets’ perhaps there were hopes that this might help the Democrats. This is wrong.

By 11:00 pm in 2016, Trump’s path to the White House was much clearer than the Democrat’s as it was last night.

In 2016, at 10:50 p.m., Trump won 29 electoral votes, winning the then swing state of Florida in a stunning surprise. This year, Trump won the Sunshine State by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The battleground state of Pennsylvania, which polls suggested was within Harris’s reach, was called by Trump at 1:35 a.m. in 2016. This monumental call came just after 2am on Wednesday this year.

Shortly after, Clinton campaign manager John Podesta urged supporters to “count the votes” and “get this done.” Jen O’Malley, Harris’ campaign chairwoman, felt the need to send an optimistic note between 10pm and 11pm to calm my nerves.

“While we continue to see a flood of data from the Sun Belt states, we knew from the beginning that our clearest path to 270 electoral votes was through the Blue Wall states,” O’Malley said. “And we’re pleased with what we see.”

At the Harris viewing party On Tuesday night at Howard University in Washington, D.C., senior campaign adviser Cedric Richmond said the vice president would not speak until the results were known.

“This has bad echoes of the events at the Javits Center in New York in 2016, when Hillary Clinton did not address her supporters and simply sent her chief of staff to tell everyone to go home,” journalist John Sopel and Independentthe columnist said before the result was confirmed. “Not a good look.”

Eight years ago, at 2:29 a.m., the state of Wisconsin called Trump and it was all over. Just like he did at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, when he won the state’s 10 electoral votes, surpassing the 270-vote mark.

By 2:50 a.m., Clinton called Trump to formally concede defeat and congratulate him on his victory, and soon after he took the stage in New York to declare victory. Harris didn’t concede the rest of the year, but Trump wasted no time in taking a victory lap around 3 a.m.

There were scenes of jubilation at Trump’s West Palm Beach headquarters early Wednesday morning. when the Republican stood on stage and won before Wisconsin’s results were known.

As the Trump campaign relives the joys of eight years ago, the way the night unfolded will no doubt bring back painful memories for Clinton and the Democrats.
