WATCH: Public protests over service disruptions

RESIDENTS of Ward 11 UMfolozi Municipality took to the N2 building late yesterday (Wednesday) to protest over lack of service delivery.

Gathering at the UMfolozi rally, protesters were unhappy about the lack of electricity for two weeks, which has reportedly led to a lack of water supply as the pump on the Mfolozi River borehole cannot operate without electricity.

The power outage that residents reportedly experienced between October 27 and October 28 was reportedly caused by the storm.

Confirming that the N2 was completely blocked on Wednesday evening, the Gambi District Premier said another complaint from residents is that since there is no water, the district municipality does not have enough water tankers to help them.

He said Eskom was committed to reaching out to protesters.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesman Captain Siyanda Shangase said SAPS was present at the protest but no cases had been filed so far.

Shangase said there was traffic in the area where the protest broke out on Thursday morning, and Gambi confirmed police were monitoring the situation.
