OAKLAND, MI. — An Oakland County man “shed tears of joy” after learning he won $1 million on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The 51-year-old player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket for the Million Dollar Madness at the East Holly Oil store at 8435 East Holly Road in Holly.

“I usually only buy tickets for $1 or $5, but I splurged and bought a ticket for $10,” the player said. “I scratched it when I got home and cried with joy when I saw that I had won $1 million! My wife scanned it three times using the Michigan Lottery app to make sure it was real. Whenever I buy a ticket, I always hope to win big, and I still can’t believe it actually happened.”

The player recently claimed his prize as a lump sum payment of approximately $693,000.

He plans to pay off his house and cars and pay bills with the prize money.

“Winning is an incredible and emotional experience,” said the lucky winner. “It means I don’t have to work as hard now, which is a big relief.”

Each $10 million Madness ticket gives people a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 million to $1 million.
