Olympiacos – Rangers 1 – 1

Kriel Dessers saved Ayoub El Kaabi’s stunning second-half strike to give Rangers a 1-1 draw with Olympiacos in the Europa League.

El Kaabi added to his stellar record in the competition with a volley to break the deadlock before Dessers latched on to Vaclav Cerny’s pass and fired a shot into the back of the net to level the scores.

Both teams remain tied on points in the Europa League with seven points each.

The absence of Rangers captain James Tavernier from the starting line-up dominated the pre-match chatter. He was replaced by Dujon Sterling and Philippe Clément, whose position had come under scrutiny following a poor start to the Scottish Premiership season, made three changes to the side that edged past Motherwell to reach the Scottish League Cup final.

Both teams started the first half energetically, trading attacks early on. The best opportunities fell to Desers, who failed to capitalize.

Konstantinos Tsolakis beat the Rangers striker twice before the break, keeping him one-on-one and then denying him from close range after an impressive strike and ball into the box from Cerny.

Dessers eventually scored his goal after the hour mark – his second goal in two games after winning the semi-final at the weekend.
