(CNS): After endless delays over the past eight years, the Department of Vehicle and Driver Licensing (DVDL) is almost completing the replacement of old vehicle registration plates with smart security ones. The project had to be completed many times over the years – the deadline before the old plates would become illegal was the end of 2022. But now drivers have just a few days to get new license plates.

Vehicle owners now have until November 15 to replace their temporary, quincentenary, personal and old registration numbers (orange and yellow). DVDL’s Crewe Road location is open Monday to Friday to facilitate number plate replacements. Customers must ensure they present their temporary/registration plates, windshield coupon and log book to the licensing officer in order to obtain their new registration plates.

Any owner of vehicles whose license plates are removed from service after November 15 will be referred to RCIPS for criminal prosecution. Failure to replace old plates is a criminal offense and is punishable by a fine of $2,500, up to six months in prison, or both.

Vehicle and driver’s license renewals can be done online through DVDL. website.
