Theaters Trust director expresses regret over fund

Outgoing Theaters Trust director John Morgan said his failure to make the case for “serious targeted public investment to protect and improve our theater buildings” during his eight years in office was his “biggest regret”.

“Despite working with a number of peer experts, both internal and external, to develop a strong evidence base and rationale, there is still no dedicated fund to support the maintenance and improvement of theatres,” Morgan said in his report. blog post.

“While some theaters have been able to raise funds from national and local government without a dedicated and significant central fund, it will always be a lottery as to which theaters will get the investment they need and which will not.”

Of his achievements, Morgan said: “I’m most proud of how we as a team have supported theaters during Covid.

“At a time when other organizations were laying off staff, we decided it was more important than ever to operate at full capacity so we could support theaters facing the greatest existential threat in recent history.”
