Paddington in Peru post-credits scene | Who’s coming back for a surprise cameo?

As well as returning stars, including Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and, of course, Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington, the film introduces a pair of important new actors, played by Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas – the former as a singing nun, the latter as a gold-hungry captain of the ship.

But there’s one particular name that hasn’t previously been confirmed for the cast, but fans will no doubt be excited to see when he appears in the film’s post-credits scene.

I wonder who it is? Read on for everything you need to know, with the warning that there will be spoilers from here on out.

Hugh Grant in the movie

The previous film in the series, Paddington 2, received near-unanimous praise for every decision made, but what was perhaps most praised was the ingenious call to the cast. Hugh Grant as the film’s main antagonist, the vain and selfish actor Phoenix Buchanan.

And so it’s perhaps unsurprising that it’s Grant who is brought back to the end of Paddington in Peru for a brief scene in which his beloved bear visits him in prison, where he appears to be rehabilitating himself just fine.

In this scene, Paddington is far from the only bear to pay him a visit. Indeed, he brings with him a whole host of other bears from his ancestral tribe that he met during his time in Peru and each of which is now also named after a famous London station (one theme is even called “Cutty Sark” after maritime Greenwich, repeating a joke comedian Sam Campbell once made in 8 Out of 10 Cats Countdown).

This gives Phoenix an idea… once he’s done his time behind bars, maybe he can direct a production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Now There is idea for Paddington 4…

Interestingly, Antonio Banderas recently revealed that the original plan was to have a post-credits music scene, recalling the classic climax of Paddington 2 when Grant sang Stephen Sondheim’s number “Rain on the Roof” along with a choir of his fellow inmates.

“At one point during the end credits they said they wanted to do a musical number with all the characters (he plays in the film),” Banderas said. Digital Spy.

“In the end, there was no time or maybe there was no budget, I don’t know, or they changed their mind. I wouldn’t mind doing it, I love musicals, I think it’s a beautiful art form.”

Paddington Peru is now showing in UK cinemas.
