RWE begins construction of the operation and maintenance base for the Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark

RVE began construction of the operation and maintenance base for the Thor offshore wind farm in Thorsmind, Denmark.

The company held a groundbreaking ceremony at Torsminde Port to mark the official start of work on this service center.

The company said the new facility will employ between 50 and 60 people who will work in shifts to ensure the wind farm operates efficiently.

Representatives from the municipality of Thorsminde, design partners ATRA Arkitekter and Frandsen & Sondergaard, construction company Østermark and RWE were present at the commencement ceremony for construction, which is expected to take approximately twelve months to complete.

The service building will cover an area of 2,300 m² over three floors and will include a control room to monitor and control the operation of the wind farm, storage space, open plan office space with natural light, a conference room, an intimate dining area and a roof terrace.

The conference room offers unique views of the North Sea to the west, RWE’s Tor offshore wind farm and the Nissum Fjord to the east. The team expects to move to the new service base by the end of next year.

Beginning in spring 2026, crew transport ships will transport workers to sea daily.

RWE Denmark chief executive Pernille Asgaard Haaning said: “Our Thor offshore wind farm is located approximately 22 km from the Danish port of Thorsminde.

“The port therefore offers the shortest sea route to the wind farm, making Torsminde an ideal location for our new operation and maintenance base.

“By investing several million euros in Thorsminde and creating up to 60 permanent jobs in the long term, we will contribute to the local economy and society.”

In September RVE start of construction ultra-fast battery energy storage system at the Moerdijk power station in the Netherlands.
