Gabe Kidd on NJPW backstage fight with AEW’s Kenny Omega

Gabe Kidd on NJPW backstage fight with AEW’s Kenny Omega

Gabe Kidd has established himself in NJPW as one of the most unhinged and aggressive personalities in the company today.

Nicknamed “Madman”, the current NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion has become known for his violent outbursts. So it’s no surprise that he decided to take on AEW star and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega backstage at the Power Struggle event on November 4 following their exchange on social media.

Most recently, Omega gave an interview to New Japan Pro Wrestling where he got Kidd’s name wrong when addressing some of the promotion’s young stars ahead of his recent return.

“Listen, I went to see him backstage. I didn’t try to interfere with what was happening.” Kidd told Disassembly. “I knew where he was going to be after he walked away from the microphone, I knew where he was going to be, so I was waiting for him and those little rats of the damn press people, they were waiting around the corner, they heard us talking.”

“I was just trying to talk to him, but I got angry. Look, I told him this before I even started wrestling, I’m a man, very crazy, so if you don’t respect me that much, I hate it when these people like MJF and Kenny, they try to act like they don’t know , what’s my name, because they’re not cool, and they’re trying to act cool in front of these other people, wrestling fans, who aren’t cool either. cool, it’s just a bunch of uncool people trying to act cool and it’s not cool, where I come from you get beat up. So, I just tried to talk to him, what happened, what happened. “

On November 7, Fightful’s Shawn Ross posted a video of Kidd’s altercation with Omega, as well as the words they exchanged before the physical confrontation.

“So, I think you know, my phone has been blowing up for the last hour, everyone, all these little nerds on the Internet, they’re like, ‘Who is this guy, why is he going to the GOAT?’ I don’t even care about all you little nerds, I don’t even care what you think about this guy, you worship this man and I kicked him out of the woodwork after he was rude. So you can. Don’t tell me anything, I kicked that guy you worship. That’s all I can say about it.”

Kidd’s problems with Omega began with a Twitter exchange the two men had during NJPW’s G1 Climax 34 last summer, where the former AEW World Champion named the promotion’s new stars.

“I don’t care if you want to talk trash behind the scenes, bring it up. I saw him talking shit on Twitter during the G1, saying, “Go win the G1, maybe I’ll give you Kenny Omega.” touch.’ I don’t need anyone’s touch, I have it, I’m the only one, I’m the craziest. Nobody brings as much professional wrestling experience as I do, I’m violent and destructive and all that stuff. From these aggressive words you might think that this is me, this is my fighting style, this is what I stand for.”

After his fight with Kidd backstage, Kenny Omega spoke to Tokyo Sportscalling the NJPW star’s actions “unprofessional.” Referring to the infamous incident backstage at “Brawl Out” at AEW All Out 2022, Omega compared Kidd to current WWE star CM Punk, calling him “that other guy.”

“What I found funny was that he immediately ran out of the building, ran to Tokyo Sports, said I pushed him and got into a fighting stance and he threw the first punch. that slap I gave you in that video.”

“Look, I don’t care about all these guys, all these stories.” – Kidd said. “Have you seen the video with Jack Perry and “he who must not be named, little Phil” shall we call him? Little Phil, it was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen and they advertised it to be on TV, it was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I saw better notes in kindergarten and it was awkward, so I don’t care if he compared it to this.”

All Elite Wrestling came under fire in April 2024 when they decided to air footage of CM Punk’s backstage altercation with Jack Perry from All In London 2023 on AEW Dynamite. This backstage incident led to Perry’s suspension and Punk’s subsequent dismissal from the company.

“I’ll tell you, this guy couldn’t hit it as hard as I could because you got slapped across the face and had your ass two-legged through a bunch of chairs. So I don’t care about any of these other people. He was disrespectful. they dealt with me and him, for me that’s all I care about.” Kidd said regarding Omega.

Before starting All Elite Wrestling with Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Tony Khan, Omega became a major star in NJPW as the company’s top foreign talent.

With critically acclaimed bouts against Kazuchika Okada and Chris Jericho, “The Cleaner” has become one of the most beloved gaijin stars in the promotion. This fact has not escaped the attention of Gabe Kidd, who believes that Omega left NJPW to start AEW.

“You left New Japan and these people love you, you left New Japan, you left it to create this new company, and now you want to come back here as if you don’t have a job anywhere else. You came back here because you know New Japan is the best, you came back here because you know New Japan is number one.”

During Omega’s promotion at NJPW Power Struggle, he teased his return to the ring after being out of action since December 2023 at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5. The event will be co-hosted by stars from AEW, NJPW, STARDOM, CMLL and ROH.

While many New Japan stars might want to get this match with “The Best Bout Machine” in the Tokyo Dome, the company appears to only have one option after Power Struggle. After meeting backstage with the AEW star, Kidd made it official that he had his sights set on Wrestle Dynasty’s biggest show to settle the score with Omega once and for all.

“So don’t talk to me about, ‘Oh, who will come out and fight me?’ I beat the crap out of you backstage, what do you think I can do in front of 50,000 people at the Tokyo Dome? I’ll finish you, Kenny. So of course I’m ready to go to the match on January 5th, no? I don’t think about anything else, whether he accepts it or not depends on this little bitch.”

Gabe Kidd will defend the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship against Kosei Fujita in the main event of NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed in Lowell, Massachusetts this Friday, November 8th. Fans can watch the show on the website njpwworld.com And Thriller TV.
