Trump prepares for second administration

The Philippine ambassador to the United States has called on Filipinos who are in the country illegally to voluntarily leave the country to avoid deportation once Trump takes office.

“My advice is not to wait for deportation,” Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez told reporters. “Because I can see that President Trump’s administration is going to be really very strict with the immigration policies that he intends to put in place.”

He estimated that there were between 250,000 and 300,000 undocumented Filipinos living in the United States.

Immigration was a major campaign issue, and Trump has repeatedly promised to deliver. “the largest deportation attempt in American history.” IN exclusive interview with NBC News he said yesterday that his administration would have “no choice” but to implement the plan and that there would be “no price” for it.

Asian American support for Trump was Up 5 points in this election than in 2020, according to an NBC News exit poll. That may have made a difference in battleground states like Nevada, where Trump won for the first time.

Filipino Americans represent the largest group of Asian American voters in the state, who in turn make up 12% of the Nevada electorate. IN rally in Las Vegas last month which was aimed at Asian Americans, Trump praised the Filipino community as “the greatest people, the hardest working people.”

Although they have historically leaned Democratic, Filipino Americans are aligned with Trump on issues such as the economy and immigration, Romualdez said.

“A lot of them are outraged by the idea that people can just come here” without following the same procedures as those who entered the country legally, he said.
