Amherstburgannual Winter River Lights Festival will shine a little brighter this holiday season thanks to Enbridge’s continued support.

For the eleventh year in a row, the company has sponsored festival decorations for historical Amherstburg all November and December.

“It’s great to be part of the community,” solar chief Ian Robertson told the Windsor Star.

“This partnership is a natural fit for us as it gives Enbridge the opportunity to contribute and share the holiday spirit with the Amherstburg community we are honored to serve.”

Enbridge, one of Canada’s largest renewable energy companies, unveiled check for $22,000 to the city on Thursday at the Gordon House.

Since 2006, the festival has filled King’s Navy Yard and Toddy Jones Park each year with hundreds of solar-powered winter light displays and activities for the whole family.

“Thanks to Enbridge’s generous sponsorship, we are proud to continue the tradition our city has come to know and love by promoting the brilliant and dazzling light displays that have become the hallmark of historic Amherstburg,” said Mayor Michael Prue.

The opening evening of the festival will take place on November 16. It starts at 5pm with a Super Santa launch/walk/wheel organized by the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA).

At 18:00 the lighting of the municipal tree and fireworks will follow, which will illuminate the night sky.

“This donation (allows us) to host the event at the scale it has been for the last several years,” said Deputy Chief Administrator Melissa Osborne. “This donation directly supports fireworks displays and investment in a warm home.”
