Russia will send Cuba 80 thousand tons of diesel fuel and equipment worth a total of $62 million as assistance in connection with the energy crisis, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said at a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental cooperation commission.

“On the instructions of our President Vladimir Putin, Russia is now ready to provide emergency assistance to brotherly Cuba in connection with the current situation in the island’s energy sector. This includes about 80 thousand tons of diesel fuel worth $60 million,” he said.

Chernyshenko added that Russia will send repair kits for damaged energy equipment. “In addition, on instructions from the president, we are providing assistance in the amount of $2 million for the supply of urgently needed equipment, which we are preparing to supply through the Ministry of Emergency Situations. These are repair kits for your power system. “, he added.

Cuban authorities are currently working to restore communications damaged by the hurricane that hit the west of the island on November 6. On Wednesday, strong winds knocked out the national power grid again. Departmental social networks reported that electricity had been restored in the eastern part of the country.
