Child dies in fiery crash after father, Good Samaritan tries to save him

LAKELAND, Fla. (Gray News) – A young child died in a fiery crash in Florida after his father and a Good Samaritan tried to save him, deputies said.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a car carrying a father and his two young children drove through the intersection into a grassy, wooded area and struck a tree before bursting into flames.

The father and a good Samaritan scrambled to get the children out of the backseat. Deputies said they were able to rescue one of the children, “but the other child tragically died in the fire.”

The father and surviving child were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries. The Good Samaritan was also treated at the hospital for burns sustained while providing assistance.

The investigation into the crash continues.
