Epcor removes 20,000 goldfish from Edmonton pond

Epcor says it has recovered more than 20,000 goldfish from a stormwater pond in Edmonton.

Last week, the utility company began adding the chemical rotenone to stormwater treatment systems in Glastonbury to cull invasive fish.

An Epcor spokesman said the fish removed from the pond weighed 770 kilograms.

One goldfish measured 29.3 centimeters (11.5 inches) in length and weighed 874 grams (1.9 pounds).

More fish are expected to be caught throughout the week.

Earlier this month, Epcor also pumped water out of the pond to keep fish from entering the North Saskatchewan River.
