Jelly Roll held a private “healing” concert for the Apalachee High School community

Award-winning singer-songwriter Jelly Roll performed a private concert for Apalachee High School students and their families in Georgia on Saturday, nearly two months after the community was devastated fatal school shooting.

The country artist, whose real name is Jason DeFord, performed Saturday afternoon at Jug Tavern Park in the small town of Winder ahead of his performance at State Farm Arena in Atlanta later that evening.

According to a post on the Town of Winder Facebook page, the special performance was only open to people associated with the high school.

“This private event aims to promote healing and unity among Apalachee High School students, faculty and families as they come together to reflect and support each other in the wake of the September tragedy,” the city said.

Jelly Roll is known for giving back to various communities through free performances.

Apalachee High School students returned to class full time Oct. 14 after a tragedy rocked their community.

On September 4, officials said a 14-year-old student at the school opened fire, killing two students and two teachers and wounding nine others. The boy is charged as an adult with four counts of murder.

The shooter’s father, 54-year-old Colin Gray, was also charged in connection with the shooting. He gave his son the AR-style weapon used in the incident, which came months after authorities visited his son last year to investigate online threats.

The father was charged with four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child abuse.
