Leonard Miller, Jaylen Clark and Jesse Edwards join Iowa Wolves

The Timberwolves announced Monday that they have assigned forward Leonard Miller to their G League affiliate the Iowa Wolves and also transferred guard Jaylen Clark and center Jesse Edwards to Iowa.

None of the three players have seen any action for an NBA franchise this season, and since the Timberwolves have a particularly deep roster, their opportunities to get playing time are likely limited.

In three games this season, the Wolves have used what is essentially an eight-man rotation, with Joe Ingles receiving limited minutes in the ninth spot. Coach Chris Finch has mentioned that he would like to extend Ingles’ time and possibly add a 10th player to the rotation, but integrating new players Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo into their new team is a higher priority at this time. And if and when the Wolves expand their rotation, it will be difficult for Miller, Clark or Edwards to get on the floor ahead of Josh Minott or newcomers Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr.

The Wolves selected Miller with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft. Miller played in 20 games for Iowa last season, averaging 20.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, and also saw some minutes on the bench in 17 games with the Timberwolves, averaging 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 3.1 minutes per game.

Clark spent last season rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon after being selected 53rd overall in the second round of the 2023 draft. Clark returned this summer and played in the Summer League and preseason.

The Wolves signed rookie Edwards to a two-way contract in July, and he also competed in the Summer League and preseason.
