Rescuers rescued a 46-year-old woman from the Niantic River

WATERFORD. CT (WFSB) – Crews rescued a 46-year-old woman from her car Monday evening after it crashed into the Niantic River.

Waterford Emergency Communications Center received a call regarding the incident at 8:03 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed that the woman was driving a 2010 Dodge Nitro westbound on Daniels Avenue when she lost control, causing the vehicle to cross a guardrail and fall into the water.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A good Samaritan, police and fire officials assisted in the rescue.

Officials are working to pull the car out of the water.

The investigation into the incident continues.
