Priority for Abbey Mobolade

COLORADO SPRINGS — Improving mental health in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region is a priority for Abby Mobolade, wife of Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade.

Even before Yemi Mobolade was elected mayor, and perhaps before he even thought about running for the seat, Abby’s gut told her it was possible.

She said, “Over the years, there have only been a few side comments or, you know, passing remarks from friends and people in the community.”

The mayor’s fame spread to the rest of the family more than expected.

As a self-proclaimed introvert, Abby decided to use this as an opportunity and platform to improve mental health in the community.

“This is not one person or one organization,” Mobolade said, “This is literally a city. This is a community. This is our district, bringing together all that they have to offer.”

She believes that mental health affects every member of society, from low energy to complete depression.

She talks about her bad days in counseling and the support that helps an adopted child adapt to a new country and a new family.

“I have the resources and connections, and it’s still difficult.”

She collaborates on projects such as the new Pikes Peak Rising 360 website through El Paso County Public Health.

This is a resource that offers many different approaches to assessing and addressing your mental health issues.

She also teaches simpler things that can improve the mental well-being of the entire community.

“Being involved in nature, art, music, reading, spending time with friends, doing yoga, playing sports – there are so many different ways to improve your mental health.”

An initiative was launched over the summer that aimed to bring together a thousand locals across the city.

It was about creating a community that has a major impact on mental health.

“When you leave this conversation, nothing is fixed. As if the problem remains a problem. The situation is the same, but the moment you are seen and the moment you are heard matters,” Mobolade said.

There is no one solution to mental health problems.

This is complex, with its own subtleties in each specific case.

Mobolade uses a step-by-step approach and believes it can be improved within the community.
