Emerson Skate Park Grand Opening Event in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – After nearly a year of construction, Grand Junction’s newest skate park is almost open.

The city of Grand Junction will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and skate contest at Emerson Skate Park on Nov. 16, and according to Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Director Ken Sherbenu, it won’t be the last time the contest will be held. in the park.

“There will be speed skating competitions in the spring,” Sherbenu said. “So it’s more of an exhibition to show what a skate park is. What really experienced skaters can do when it comes to the new facilities at Emerson is also capable.”

And for local residents, the new park is a chance to broaden their horizons and try something new.

Neil Bohnen takes his kids to Eagle Rim Park, but says the new park in Emerson is a chance for his son to try something new.

“I think we like all the skate parks in town,” Bohnen said. “One of the things I love about living in Grand Junction is that there are so many opportunities for kids. So the new skate park, my son is really excited about it, especially now that it’s getting a little nicer. He’s excited about the new features.”

As for his son Trevor, he is simply delighted with the new place and is not really looking for anything new.

“You know, to be honest, I don’t think I would want anything else. I think it’s a really cool skate park and I’m really excited to see what else they have.”

The event will last from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
