EVANSVILLE — Election Day is a week away, which means voters still have time to do their due diligence before heading to the polls.

Below is a list of what will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot in Vanderburgh County, along with links to learn more about some of the candidates and races.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Board District 3

Voters will choose two candidates for the District 3 school board. The candidates: Josh Barnett, vice president of an Evansville-based basketball media company. SLAM Media; Amy DeVries, Development and Outreach Coordinator, Pro Bono Indiana, Inc.; and Terry Gamblin, who served on the board for 36 years.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Board District 1

  • Karen Ragland (incumbent)

Vanderburgh County Council At-Large

Voters will choose three candidates in this race.

The candidates are incumbent Bob Deig (R), incumbent Jill Hahn (D), Karese Johnson (R), Ed Bassemier (R), Dustin Stevens (D) and Joe Kiefer II (R).

Vanderburgh County Commission, District 1

  • Mike Goebel (D) (incumbent)

Vanderburgh County Commission, District 3

The race for Vanderburgh County Commission District 3 will give the Legislature a new face this year, no matter who wins.

Voters will choose between Republican Amy Canterbury and Democrat Hope Fassner.

Vanderburgh County Judges

When voters go to the polls on Nov. 5, several local judges will be on the ballot, but only one of the races is contested. All judge races in Vanderburgh County are nonpartisan.

In the race for Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Judge, voters will choose between Molly Briles and Ryan Hatfield.

Indiana Attorney General

Voters will choose between incumbent Republican Todd Rokita and Democrat Destiny Wells.

US House, District 8

Republican longtime 8th District U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon has announced he will not seek re-election this year.

Republican Mark Messmer, Democrat Eric Hurt and Libertarian Richard Fitzlaff are vying for the seat.

US Senate

On this year’s ballot are Republican Jim Banks, Democrat Valerie McCray and Libertarian Andrew Horning.

President of the United States

This year, incumbent President Joe Biden said he would not seek re-election. Voters will choose between incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, former President Donald Trump, a Republican and Libertarian Chase Oliver.

Constitutional amendment

Voters will be asked whether the Indiana Constitution should be amended to remove the State Superintendent of Public Instruction from the list of officials who can serve as governor if the offices of governor and lieutenant governor are vacant?

What you need to know: Hoosiers will vote on the constitutional amendment on Election Day. This is what it will do.

Indiana Judge Retention

Three Indiana Supreme Court judges and two Indiana Court of Appeals judges are set to retire this November, meaning voters will be asked to decide if they want them to stay in place for another 10 years.

Voters will vote for or against Chief Judge Loretta Rush, Judges Mark Massa and Derek Molter, and Judges Rudolph Pyle III, Fourth Circuit, and Peter Foley, First Circuit.

According to the state, the preservation process is designed to help judges decide cases “fairly and impartially, without campaign finance considerations or the influence of partisan politics.”
