Wolves News: Opinion – Have Brighton painted a “turning point” or are they “wetting the cracks”?

Matheus Cunha’s late goal at the Amex Stadium was more than just an equalizer. It was a sudden rush of adrenaline that lifted spirits both on and off the field.

The fans erupted with joy as the team showed resilience and determination to fight back to draw with Brighton. Could this be the turning point they’ve been waiting for, or has it just smoothed over the cracks?

A draw may not seem like a huge achievement, but its psychological impact cannot be underestimated. With renewed self-confidence and belief, this draw could represent more than just a question on the table – it could be the shift in dynamics we desperately need.

Gary O’Neill’s tactical choices, especially his team building decisions, attracted scrutiny. Some Wolverhampton fans expressed concern about his post-match comments: “I’m a little disappointed with myself for starting at five in defence, though.”

Gary is right of course, the way we played as a five stifled any attacking threat we had, but it was doomed from the start as there were three holding midfielders up front, leaving everyone stuck behind the ball.

The move to a back four has paid off, but we must not forget that it was a brave move. Our defensive weaknesses in the back four are being exploited week after week. Even during the celebrations, the draw revealed obvious weaknesses. Defensive lapses remain the team’s troubling Achilles heel. But to his credit, Gary got his place as a substitute this week.

The path ahead is not easy, but it offers opportunities. With more favorable outcomes in matches, the pressure on O’Neill increases. His future depends on whether Wolves can emerge from their current predicament, and games against Crystal Palace and Southampton could only be the stage for his redemption or downfall.
