Two semis were involved in a crash in Carpentersville on Highway 31 near Miller Road around 7:39 a.m.

The driver of a Freightliner semi hauling sand was heading east on Miller Road approaching Highway 31, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Mack semi was traveling south on Highway 31.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of a Freightliner semi-truck allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign to wait for vehicles to pass at the intersection.

Unable to stop in time, both semi-trailers crashed at the intersection.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the Freightliner Semi was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the cab. The driver of the Freightliner died at the scene.

The Mack semi ended up in a field east of Illinois Highway 31. The 60-year-old Streamwood driver was taken to hospital in critical condition.

As of 8:30 a.m., Highway 31 was closed between Lincoln Avenue and Longmeadow Parkway.
