“I was really just hoping it was a nightmare,” said son Adam Diaz.

Two brothers in Colorado are devastated after their parents and two sisters died in a car crash over the weekend.

Thornton Police Department This is stated in a press release published on X (formerly known as Twitter) that a speeding Subaru crashed into a Ford SUV carrying four victims at around 7:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, October 26, “causing the gas tank to rupture and burst into flames.” A third vehicle, a Chrysler van, was also struck.”

Francisco Diaz, Beatriz Nunez and their daughters Paola Diaz, 15, and Natalie Diaz, 10, died in the fire. CBS affiliate KKTV And ABC KMGH Branch reported.

Meanwhile, police said the driver of the Subaru suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver of the Chrysler was not injured. The crash is being investigated.

Brothers Daniel and Adam Diaz, who were not in the car at the time of the accident, have yet to recover from their deaths. “We feel lost. We don’t even know what the next step is,” Daniel told KMGH-TV. “It doesn’t even seem real yet.”

Their parents and sisters were heading to Walmart after attending church on Oct. 26, according to KKTV and KMGH.

“None of them were actually answering the phone, so that’s when I headed over,” Adam told KKTV. “I got there pretty quickly, but everything was already on fire. There was nothing they could do.”

“It just didn’t feel real. “I was really just hoping it was a nightmare,” he added.

The brothers, who lived at home with their family, said they were all close, KKTV reported. Now the brothers say they are grateful to at least have each other.

“(It’s hard) knowing that this time I’ll go out and come home, (and my mom) won’t be waiting for me,” Daniel told the radio station.

A GoFundMe was created to help brothers with funeral expenses and more. As of Tuesday, Oct. 29, the fundraiser had raised more than $67,000.

The organizer wrote: “In the midst of unimaginable grief, these two young people who have suffered tragedy need our help to ensure they are supported during this difficult time.”
