COVINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) – A driver who was found guilty A man was sentenced Tuesday for killing a man in a December 2023 crash.

Kenton County Circuit Judge Patricia Samme sentenced the 42-year-old man. Christopher Jackson to 35 years in prison for the murder of Gordon Torline.

In January, a grand jury found Jackson guilty of murder, driving under the influence and other charges that led to Torline’s death.

On December 22, 2023, Jackson crashed into Torline’s vehicle on Industrial Road in Florence around 4 p.m.

Officers found Jackson walking along the road near his Lincoln MKT and Torline unconscious under his Mazda sedan.

Emergency crews had to cut Torline out from under the dashboard. Once freed, he was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

At the scene of the crash, officers noticed Jackson smelled of alcohol, was slurring his words, and had trouble following instructions.

TV camera footage shows Jackson failed a field sobriety test after the crash and called the victim slurs.

Prosecutors allege Jackson’s BAC was 0.241, three times the legal limit in Kentucky.

During a joint investigation, Independence police and the Kenton County Police Department Serious Crash Reconstruction Team determined that Jackson ran over a curb with his passenger tires before driving out of his lane.

Jackson’s vehicle crossed into Thorline’s lane, causing the crash, police said.

Additionally, police say Jackson was driving 99 mph in a 45 mph zone.
