Man hospitalized, two suspects in custody after shooting near Prince George’s County schools

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD. — Two suspects are in custody and a third is being sought after shootings near two schools in Prince George’s County Tuesday morning left one man hospitalized in critical condition.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, around 9:40 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 7000 block of Allentown Road, near Crossland High School and Thurgood Marshall High School. The area, which includes the Woodberry Plaza shopping center, was the scene of a heavy police presence as officers worked to secure the area.

At the scene, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency crews took him to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

During the investigation, police detained two suspects in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officials said they are still actively searching for a third person believed to be involved in the incident.

In response to the shooting, Crossland High School and Thurgood Marshall High School were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police confirmed that restrictions have since been lifted as the immediate threat to the area has been eliminated.

The investigation continues as authorities work to find a third suspect and determine the motive for the shooting.
