Marc-Andre Fleury received a great send-off from the Pittsburgh Penguins

He may be finishing his career with the Minnesota Wild, but Marc-Andre Fleury will always be known as the greatest player of all time for the Pittsburgh Penguins. From 2003 to 2017, Fleury set the standard for goaltenders in a Penguins uniform, helping Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup three times.

Fleury announced that the 2024-25 season will be his final season in the NHL, giving teams ample opportunity to gift the future Hall of Famer proper send-offs. The Penguins and their fans did not disappoint in Fleury’s final game on Pittsburgh ice.

Not only did Fleury and the Wild score a 5-3 win over the Penguins, but Fleury was named the first star of the game. He made 26 saves on 29 shots on goal.

After hearing his name called as the opening star and receiving thunderous applause from the PPG Paints Arena crowd, Fleury took a victory lap to thank the Pittsburgh faithful.

Two of Fleury’s longtime teammates, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang, remained on the ice to watch Fleury receive the treatment he deserved. Fleury rode up to greet Crosby and Letang.

Fleury later said he was told to “enjoy his knees.”

It was a memorable few days for Fleury in Pittsburgh. He spoke to the media in a press conference style with members of the Minnesota and Pittsburgh media, skated with some Pittsburgh Youth Hockey players, and upon arrival at the arena a large gift of flowers awaited him.

There was even a Penguins merchandise store sale of special items to mark Fleury’s final stop in Pittsburgh.

“It’s so hard to say goodbye,” Fleury said. Pittsburgh crowd. – But thank you very much.

Fleury holds the record in virtually every goalie category in Penguins franchise history. In 691 games played for the Penguins, he compiled a record of 375-216-68 with 44 shutouts.

After leaving the Penguins, Fleury went on to play for the Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks and is ending his career with the Wild. He is one of only four goalies to play more than 1,000 career games (1,028) and ranks second all-time in wins (563).
