COME! Cal Poly Humboldt Announces Automatic Admission to Select Lucky SoCal Students | Lost Coast Outpost

Cal Poly Press Release Humboldt:

California State University (CSU) is partnering with the Riverside County Office of Education to offer the first ever direct pilot for the CSU system. Eligible students at every public high school in Riverside County will soon be offered direct admission to CSU for the fall 2025 semester before they even submit an application.

Qualified Riverside County high school seniors—those ready to take college-preparatory courses (AG requirements)—are offered immediate, conditional admission to CSU’s 10 campuses via a brochure mailed to their home address. Students will then use CaliforniaColleges.edu A platform to select your preferred CSU campuses with official acceptance letters sent directly from the universities.

“This partnership is Humboldt’s first-ever direct admission program, and we are excited to offer this opportunity for California students to receive a polytechnic education among the redwoods,” said Chrissy Holliday, vice president of enrollment management and student success at Cal Poly Humboldt. “We hope to expand direct admissions to other districts throughout California by leveraging what we have learned from these efforts, as well as the power of the California Colleges platform and data partnerships. This is just one way we are rising to meet the needs of our state by preparing students for their chosen careers and success in life.”

Cal Poly Humboldt will join Channel Islands, Chico, East Bay, Maritime Academy, Monterey Bay, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Marcos and Sonoma in offering direct entry. Riverside students may apply to other CSUs not on the direct admission list. If a student is applying to an affected program or campus, additional criteria may be required for admission.

Humboldt has a long history of attracting students from Southern California, with 28% of our fall 2024 students coming from the region. In keeping with Humboldt’s goal of providing access to higher education, the percentage of first-generation students increased to 42% of the total new student body, and Pell Grant recipients increased to 39% of the new student body.

“We are grateful for this innovative partnership with CSU to expand access to world-class higher education for our diverse and talented students in Riverside County,” said Riverside County Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin Gomez. “As California is one of the fastest growing regions, the need for college-educated professionals will continue to grow, and this partnership will remove barriers to higher education by attracting more college-ready students to the CSU system through this innovative direct admission program . »

Once directly admitted students submit their applications, they must continue to meet AG requirements and graduate from high school. Once officially accepted into their chosen university, students must confirm their intent to enroll by the campus deadline and complete any additional admissions steps, such as attending orientation, paying tuition fees, and submitting final transcripts or other documentation. Students are also encouraged to apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) as soon as possible and no later than the California deadline, which historically is March 2 .

“We are pleased to provide a direct path to higher education for thousands of high school students throughout Riverside County,” said April Grommo, CSU assistant vice chancellor for strategic enrollment management. “We want students to know that college doors are open to them and to help take the stress and uncertainty out of the college application process. Riverside County is a great location for this first-ever CSU program because it is ethnically and economically representative of California’s diversity, and CSU is so proud to serve so many students.”
