Clemson Tigers ACC Championship Odds Take a Big Hit During Bye Week

Clemson Tigers did not play in Week 9 of the college football season as they had their second bye of the season. Despite not playing, they were still one of the week’s biggest losers.

Be inactive dropped them two positions in the AP Top 25 as they are currently tied for 11th place with Iowa State Cyclones because Notre Dame Fighting Irish, BYU Cougars And Texas A&M Aggies everything rose.

They actually moved up one spot in the AFCA poll to eighth place thanks to LSU Tigers loss and fall by nine positions.

While Clemson still controls the team’s destiny, when it comes to a College Football Playoff berth, the road there will be difficult. They will be tested as their chances of winning the ACC Championship plummeted in Week 9.

Miami Hurricanes are now the overwhelming favorites with 55 percent, up 8.6 percent from last week. ESPN’s Bill Connelly. Their resounding victory over Florida State Seminolescoupled with the easy walk schedule certainly made things difficult for the Tigers.

Dabo Swinney and his team saw their ACC championship chances drop to 19.6 percent, a decline of 7.2 percent.

“Clemson had a bad bye week. The Tigers didn’t play, but their chances for the ACC title were greatly diminished, both because Miami cleared another hurdle and because their upcoming opponents on the road Virginia Tech And Pitt Both saw their SP+ ratings rise—Pitt to 23rd, Tech to 24th—after strong performances in Week 9. I think SP+ is still slightly underestimating the Tigers, but ahead Louisville (22nd in SP+), it’s going to be quite a grind for both the Hokies and Panthers over the next three weeks. And with SMU the projected favorite in each of the last four games, any mistake could be costly for Clemson,” Connelly wrote.

What many thought was a soft conference schedule turned into something else. Three opponents in a row ranked in the top 25 SP+, two of them on the road, could challenge any team in the country.

Pittsburgh will play a major role in the developments as they play both teams. SMU and Clemson. Currently, none of the Hurricanes’ remaining conference opponents have an ACC record above the .500 mark.

According to Connelly, the Panthers and Tigers are in the two biggest remaining games on the ACC schedule. This is a race worth keeping a close eye on as automatic bets and possibly an at-large selection will be on the line in the coming weeks.
