Anne J. Evans

Anne J. Evans

It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Ann “Annie” Josephine Adcock Evans on October 25, 2024. Since February of this year, Ann has resided in Magnolia Terrace, Galion, Ohio, with her primary residence in Chiswick. Location in Galion, Ohio.

Ann was born in McMinnville, Tennessee on April 27, 1926. At the age of 2, she lost her mother and was raised by Grandma Adcock on the family farm, land gifted to the family for its service in the American Revolutionary War. After her grandmother’s death, Ann lived with her married sister, Mary Lou (Adcock) Judkins, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Ann attended Oak Ridge High School, where she was a star basketball player at the local high school, and after graduating in 1945, she moved to Columbus, Ohio. Interesting side note… Ann would stop at a friend’s house to pick up her basketball uniform and drop it off after practices or games… this was at a time when women’s sports were frowned upon in the “Old South”! Years later, however, she enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ various sporting events. A special victory she remembered fondly was her granddaughter Kirsten Evans’ participation in the Michigan Spartan football team’s victory over the University of Michigan Wolverines.

Ann attended Ohio State University, where she met on a blind date with a returning World War II veteran enrolled in OSU’s civil engineering program. They married in 1950 and eventually moved to Galion, Ohio, where her husband Charles “Chuck” O. Evans joined the Galion Iron Works. The couple had three children; John O. Evans of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Choel Evans of Galion, Ohio (deceased), Amy Jane “Evans” Buckley of Incline Village, Nevada (deceased). She is survived by her son-in-law Robert Buckley of Incline Village, Nevada and 5 grandchildren: Alyssa Ashley “Evans” Censoni, married to Brian Censoni of Portland, Oregon, Kirsten Evans of Portland, Oregon, Teagan Evans and Lindsay Ann Evans, both living in the country. in West Bloomfield, Michigan, McKenna Buckeley of Incline Village, Nevada, and great-granddaughter Siena Censoni of Portland, Oregon. Anna’s brother Noah Adcock and her sister Mary Lou Judkins have since passed away. Anna is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Shelley Essig, Caroline Hall, Bob Judkins, Ian Wainwright, Renee O’Regan, Gordon Adcock, Michael Adcock, Debbie Bittenworth, Diane Summerville, Joanne Adcock, Mary Beth Smith, Lisa Merry . and Sigrid Merry.

Ann was very active in her community and enriched it in several ways: she was a long-time member of Community Christian Church, Galion Country Club, Bridge Club and Garden Club, forming many lifelong friendships. She enjoyed volunteering as a Troop 76 Scout Leader and an elementary school assistant classroom teacher… her passion for children continued as a Bible study teacher. Her 30-year participation in elections was a patriotic duty that she felt obliged to fulfill. Anne was honored to serve as Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) of the Olentangy Chapter, representing the organization at events in Washington, DC. She received the Crawford County Republican of the Year award for her tireless dedication to electing Ronald Regan in his 1985 presidential campaign and often pointed out with great pride to visitors to her home how President Regan personally signed the award plaque. She worked as an administrator for the Ohio State Publishing Department and was a homemaker and proud mother.

Ann was completely devoted and in love with her husband “KO”. They could often be found working together in the garden or yard, in the kitchen, combining their talents to prepare a delicious meal, simply sitting next to each other and reading, or attending various events with their many friends. The couple were truly “soul mates” and “Chuck” loved and appreciated his wife so much that he saved money until he could afford to build her the home of her dreams… always a Southern girl, Ann secretly dreamed of having a home in the “Old South” style “pillars”. In 1968, CO surprised her with plans to build a house she could only imagine! It was a warm home of which she was proud throughout her life, and she was fortunate to graciously host family and friends until her 97th year.

Anna was recognized as a modest, elegant woman, always ready to engage in conversation. Everyone loved her Southern hospitality. Any visitor at her door will be warmly greeted and invited to stay for a chat and a cup of coffee. She was a tribute and resource to the Galion community and her beautiful smile and gentle soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at Galion Community Christian Church, 6195 OH-19, Galion, OH 44833 on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Viewing hours will begin at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society at (419) 562-9149.
