Penguin showrunner explains why Joker and Harley Quinn weren’t featured in Arkham Asylum – GeekTyrant

Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc recently revealed the fourth episode of the series, set in Arkham Asylum. The episode specifically focuses on the story of Sofia Falcone and her time in a mental hospital.

Some fans had hoped to see classic Batman villains like the Joker, Harley Quinn and the Riddler in Arkham, but that was never the plan. The creative team didn’t want anything to distract from Sofia’s story.

LeFrank shared in an interview with the publication Direct: “Honestly, in this episode we were only thinking about Sofia, about her journey. It’s a challenging episode because it’s only about an hour long and we told a lot of stories in it.”

LeFranc further explained, “We didn’t want to throw the kitchen sink at us and didn’t want the character to be distracted by her experience.”

She went on to emphasize that they want viewers to “be immersed in her point of view, in her world.”

All the decisions they made for this episode were smart, and it ended up being one of the best and strongest episodes of the series.
