5 players who could replace Ballon d’Or-winning star Lookman when he leaves Atalanta

Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed this. La Gazetta dello Sport that Paris Saint-Germain had inquired about him, but despite a personal agreement, a deal could not be concluded.

Players who can replace Lookman

1. Mario Retegui

La Dea may have to look for a replacement Super Eagles, forward. Teammate Mario Retegui is a similar player who could fill his boots. The Argentine-born striker is already making his mark and is currently Serie A’s top scorer with 10 goals and two assists in nine games.

2. Nico Gonzalez

Gonzalez, owned by Fiorentina, was Atalanta’s first target when PSG approached Lookman in the summer, but Juventus won the battle by signing him on loan. The loan must be bought back, but the Bergamo team could fall if it is not implemented.

3. Federico Chiesa

Euro 2020 winner Chiesa was also on Atalanta’s radar when they inquired about replacing Lookman last summer. He moved to Liverpool but played only 78 minutes due to injury. The Reds are reportedly willing to loan him out to regain his fitness, with a return to Italy a possible option.

4. Denis Dragus

The Romanian international is similar to Lookman: a striker who can also operate on the wing. It may not be easy for Dragus, who just joined Turkish club Trabzonspor in June and is still adapting to life in the Super League.

5. Angel Gomez

Former Manchester United star Gomes is another versatile and young option that the Europa League winners should consider. He currently plays for Ligue 1 club Lille and will become a free agent in June 2025 as he is yet to sign a new contract.
