The FA unveils a new four-year strategy for women’s and girls’ football

The Football Association has published its new four-year women’s and women’s football strategy, which has four key elements:

  • Create and protect the uniqueness of the women’s game

  • Win a major international tournament.

  • Create reliable and high-quality competition

  • Ensure equal opportunities for women and girls in the game.

Within these four priorities, the FA will focus on women’s health and wellbeing, advocacy, refereeing, coaching, diversity and inclusion.

One of the goals they hope to achieve is to ensure girls have equal access to football in 90% of schools in key stages two and three.

They also want to encourage “significant investment” in the game following the takeover of the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship by independent company Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL).

They are also considering expanding leagues (but haven’t specified whether that includes the WSL) and want to increase prize money in the Women’s FA Cup.

The FA’s Director of Women’s Football, Baroness Sue Campbell, said: “To grow, we must continue to honor our history and recognize those who have contributed to making it so unique.

“We want to convey all of our distinctive qualities to every player in the game, ensuring that they are valued and valued in their own right; creating and protecting what makes us special.

“No girl or woman should be limited by historical prejudices, and we want to encourage everyone to follow their dreams, whatever they may be.”
