After years of releasing conversion kits that turn a regular bike into an electric bike, Swytch has unveiled a “totally affordable electric bike (that’s also a great bike).” The Go eBike will be equipped with the company’s latest hub motor and long-range battery.

“One of the key reasons our customers love their Swytch bikes is that they retain the feel and ride of their original bike: the Swytch system is so lightweight and unobtrusive that you still have a bike, unlike most budget e-bikes that end up being heavy. (over 45 pounds), and it’s unpleasant to ride,” said CTO and co-founder Dmitry Khroma.

“We set out to develop a quality, lightweight bike that is a great off-grid bike, but with the added help of the Swytch system, so you get a bike and an ebike at a really great price.”

Swytch built its brand on making conversion kits for regular bicycles, but has now developed its first full e-bike.

There’s not much to talk about at the moment, but the promo shots show an aluminum mid-range frame with a Go battery down tube mounting system for long range. It doesn’t look like it will recently announced Max+ but rather a 370Wh Go++ that delivers up to 60 miles (96.5 km) of pedal-powered range in 5 hours of charging.

The setup can also accommodate an entry-level Go version of the 20-mile PAS or a 40-mile Go+ variant. Whichever option ends up being used in the Go eBike, the battery is removable and lockable.

While current conversion kits come with a motorized front wheel, Swytch recently announced the addition of a rear hub version. The brand’s first full e-bike will feature this new flavor, which features a 250W rear hub motor for pedal assist at speeds up to 20 mph (though that will be limited to 25 km/h in some regions).

No details have been revealed at this time, but the term “lightweight” is mentioned several times in promotional materials. And if you’re willing to remove the battery and go old school, your motorless ride should be even easier. Whether you ride with or without a motor, the bike is equipped with a 7-speed Shimano gearbox, wide road tires and a hydraulic brake.

Swytch aims to build the Go eBike to EN15194 and UL 2271 safety standards, but a potential release window of mid-2025 depends on people showing enough interest in the company’s upcoming product. Fundraising on Crowdcube.

Assuming enough buzz (and money) is generated, Swytch will be targeting a suggested retail price of $1,200 in the US and £999 in the UK, “making it one of the most competitive e-bikes on the market.” More detailed information will come later.
