Ogre reworks, new items and more

Creative Assembly is releasing Patch 5.3 for Total War: Warhammer 3 on October 31, 2024, which includes several overhauls to ogres-related mechanics, a wave of all-new magic items and a free unit, and several other changes and fixes.

Ogre Kingdoms players will be able to take advantage of a revamped reward system, while everyone will benefit from updated Ogre Mercenary mechanics – both systems have already been detailed by the studio. Ogre remakes last week, so this is nothing new. The same goes for the new unit introduced in this update, the Vampire Count variant of the Grave Guard halberd.

However, there is much more to discover in this update, such as a list of brand new magic items, including some unique ones, that you can now find in your campaigns.

Ogre Mercenary Set Rework

The quality of available mercenary units now depends on the level of the ogres’ camp. More mercenary units are now available in Ogre camps, including:

Ogre Contract Rework

“We plan to release a major overhaul of the Ogre Kingdoms in the next DLC pack, as well as an extensive Mercenary Contracts feature for Golgfag Maneater. Therefore, we felt that the existing Contracts feature needed an update and were able to implement it ahead of this release.”

Unique items:

Research Overflow

Previously, completing technology research at high technology speed could result in the research being “wasted” due to overflow. Creative Assembly changed the system and this is no longer the case.

“With our new system, when you complete research on a technology with excess points, those extra points will be stored as “excess research points” in your technology tree. This surplus will then be automatically applied to the next technology you research. Enjoy the small (but now real) benefits of a 5% research rate in the long run.”

Range of motion display

“We’ve reworked the way range of motion is displayed in the campaign to improve clarity when moving and switching positions. Range of motion used to be shown as a percentage, but it was often a numerical value. To clarify this, range of motion is now shown as a numeric value, and bonuses will still be presented as percentages. This change should make entering and exiting the stance more intuitive, especially when calculating the required range of motion!”
