Equipment upgrades are tied to your caretaker level. – therefore, you will not be able to improve the part you need if it does not meet the required level.

Because of this, we highly recommend upgrading the Overseer’s Workshop to Rank 2 when you first want to use it, otherwise its starting rank will be quite limited. You can increase the rank of the Workshop by interacting with the Overseer and selecting the “Increase Rank” option on the right side of the menu that appears.

If you have the required number of souvenirs (they can be found throughout Thedas), you can use the indicated hint to increase the rank of the Workshop. You can continue to increase his rank as much as you like as long as you have the required number of souvenirs.

Now, to upgrade your equipment, talk to the Overseer in his Workshop to open the main menu, and then select the “Upgrade” option in it. You’ll be taken to another menu where you can select items from Rook’s or your companion’s collections, depending on which items you want to upgrade.

For Rook, you can upgrade most of his equipment, with the exception of the rings and amulets you collected for him. If you want to increase the rarity of an item, you need to find a duplicate of it. However, we have discovered that you cannot upgrade unique items.

For your companions, you can upgrade their two-handed weapons and armor – it’s significantly less than you can do with the Rook, but it’s still worth the time to make them stronger for the tasks ahead of you.

Now, to upgrade a piece of equipment (for your Rook or companion), select it from the upgrade menu. Then two fields will appear – one in the middle of the screen that will show you the current stats of that item, how much the stats will increase when upgraded, and how much materials it will cost to apply that upgrade.

A smaller box will then appear on the right side of the screen that will show a description of the item you selected and give you the characteristics of what it will become after you apply the upgrade.

If you have the right materials, simply use the suggested command to “level up” your equipment (which literally means “upgrade” in the game).

Now that you’ve done this, you can continue upgrading as many items as you like! Only Remember that your upgrades are tied to your caretaker level.so if you can’t do what you want, it’s most likely because you haven’t reached the required level yet.

You can also upgrade some items by purchasing duplicates from a merchant.
