Amorim will have to delay his summer signing to secure the ideal asset needed ‘100 percent’

Amorim will have to delay his summer signing to secure the ideal asset needed ‘100 percent’

Tim Sherwood has told Ruben Amorim he should “100 percent” bring in Victor Giokeres, but to do so he will need to “get” Joshua Zirkzee out the door.

Amorim appears to be very close to being appointed United manager. The day after Erik ten Hag’s sacking, with the Red Devils finishing 14th in the Premier League, it was suggested that the Sporting manager was the club’s top target.

The Portuguese club reportedly believe he has already made his decision to join, with multiple reports suggesting it is very close.

Amid these reports, much has been said about the future of striker Ghiokeres, who was one of the best in the world under Amorim. It has been suggested that he would want to take the Swede with him and Sherwood agrees he should do so, but it would mean sacrificing Zirkzee just months after he was signed.

“Then he needs to decide what do I need in January? Is he bringing Marcus Edwards with him? This boy is a superstar. “He moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Sporting,” Sherwood said in an interview. Sky Sport.

“Are we bringing Giokeres? At the moment he’s just on fire. I would 100 percent assume that this boy will come because they are short of centre-forwards.

“They’ve got Hoylund, they’ve got Zirkzee, who’s not a center forward anyway, but they need to get him out before they can bring in players and that’s the problem.”

The departure of Zirkzee, who has scored just three goals since joining the club for £36.5 million in the summer, will be awkward for both the striker and the club, but if they can land Gyokeres it will be worth it.

The strong connection between Giokeres and Amorim

Gyokeres reached new heights under Sporting, where he was signed by Amorim, and is said to have stayed at the club after the summer because he wanted to continue playing under the coach despite offers from elsewhere.

He and Morten Hjulmand are among the players who He is said to have ‘interrogated’ the manager over his move to United This week.

They wanted to remain under his watch at Sporting and if any of them had the opportunity to go to Old Trafford with him, there is no doubt that they would have taken it.

United will therefore be well positioned to pursue him, despite competition from a number of Premier League rivals.

Manchester United review: More Sporting players on the radar

While Ghiokeres is on United’s radar, he is not among Amorim’s most coveted Sporting players in his new role.

TEAMtalk understands that he would like to take three people from his current team with him: Gonzalo Inacio, Marcus Edwards and Pedro Goncalves.

Meanwhile, United management is considering the possibility of acquiring its own players.

Teenager Chris Rigg is wanted, although Sunderland will reportedly do everything they can to thwart United.

Jamal Musiala is also on the radar but has found himself on the shortlist of most of Europe’s biggest teams given his contract with Bayern Munich is due to expire.

Giokeres prospers under Amorim

In 65 matches under Amorim for Sporting, Ghiokeres scored 59 goals and provided 19 assists.

If reports are confirmed that the manager will not take charge of United before the November international break, the Swede will have a few more games to improve his performance under his current boss.
