To determine which cities have the healthiest and least healthy populations, Forbes Advisor analyzed data for the 50 most populous cities (46 of which had data available). Specifically, the analysts looked at the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease and deaths from opioid overdoses per 100,000 residents, the percentage of adults with diabetes and high blood pressure, and the percentage of adults who reported heavy drinking and smoking.

They also looked at the percentage of adults who reported obesity and physical inactivity. The report uses 2023 data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
