Raith Rovers seek revenge as Ayr United target second place

Ayr have all the makings of a potential title winner, but recent failures against arch-rivals Falkirk and Livingston have slowed their momentum.

Falkirk’s defeat was keenly felt as it was probably the only match of the season where the standard of play fell into disappointing category for Scott Brown’s side.

Livingston’s defeat was somewhat different. It was thought to be more of a couple of mistakes and Eyre was disappointed that he didn’t get anything out of the game.

There is a sense that the Honest Men are finding their way at the start of a season that is becoming increasingly difficult as they enter the second of three consecutive league games away from home.

Two draws, two wins and two defeats closely mirror Rovers’ last six league matches, but the visitors already have the advantage of two triumphs over the Fifers this campaign.

Both came to Somerset Park, where league success was followed by a Challenge Cup victory at the end of August.
