RMT strikes on London Underground called off

RMT strikes on London Underground called off

Passengers, breathe a sigh of relief. Two weeks after the first series of strikes announced for London Underground by RMT and ASLEFToday (1 November) many of these strikes have been called off.

RMT, which was supposed to start several days of action tonight, will now not go away. The union protested the wages but now says its members have received a “significantly improved offer”. ASLEF, meanwhile, has not announced a cancellation of the two days of strike. ASLEF introduces 2000 tube drivers and still plans strike on November 7 and 12..

An RMT spokesman said: “Following intensive discussions with London Underground management and a significantly improved proposal, we have suspended the industrial action which was due to begin this evening.

“London Underground has wisely rejected proposed changes to its pay structure, which now means all our members will receive the same pay.

“Further discussions on the payment proposal will take place next week, but progress has already been made that would not have been possible without the resilience and industrial strength of our 10,000 London Underground members.”

Claire Mann, TfL’s chief operating officer, said: “We are pleased that the RMT has suspended its planned strike action across the London Underground network to allow further negotiations.

“We believe our proposal is fair, affordable, beneficial to our colleagues and good news for London.

“We will continue to work closely with all our unions and call on ASLEF to also cancel its planned action next week.”

So, some positive news about the London railway strikes – yes, really! There are now fewer dates to worry about. can you get to the airportor whether Elizabeth line is working. Let’s hope ASLEF also reaches an agreement soon…
