Ohio Handle: September revenue was up significantly year-over-year.

Online and retail sportsbooks in the Buckeye State combined to bring in $864.3 million, the third-highest total since betting began in January 2023.

Ohio’s sports betting market grew substantially year-over-year in September, reaching $6 billion year-to-date.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission said a monthly total of $864.3 million through the first full month of the football season. The amount bet at online bookmakers and retail bookmakers increased by 25% compared to September 2023 and was the third highest amount since betting began in January 2023.

Gross revenue in September also jumped 30% year-on-year to $106.2 million, joining January as the only two months in 2024 where profits reached $100 million. Online operators spent a total of $47.7 million.

Sports betting operators’ share of 12.3% was up nearly half a point from last year and more than three points higher than in August. With the NFL and college football in full swing, September sales jumped 57.5% and revenue increased a whopping 117.7% compared to several August college football days and the entire NFL preseason.

Tax revenues are growing

The Buckeye State added $21.3 million to its coffers in September. That’s more than double August’s $9.8 million and up nearly $5 million from last year.

Ohio’s tax revenue topped $125 million in 2024, a 50.4% year-over-year increase of $129.8 million.

Online sports betting generated $842.4 million in Ohio’s total revenue and nearly $103 million in September revenue. Nine of the 14 bookmakers recorded double-digit holds for the month.

DraftKings topped all mobile carriers with $308.7 million in revenue, while FanDuel came in second with $276 million. FanDuel made higher profits, winning 14.2% of bets and earning a state-best $39.1 million. With a 12.1% stake, DraftKings reached $37.5 million, more than double its value in August.

bet365 came in third with revenue of $68 million, while BetMGM was the only operator to earn more than $50 million.

Sportsbook Fanatics finished with $35.6 million in bets, while Caesars took in $29.2 million, about $500,000 more than ESPN BET. Hard Rock Bet and Prime Sports also reached $10 million in September.

New in the mix

Betr has completed its first full month of operating a traditional sportsbook in the Buckeye State. After earning $179,546 during its soft launch in late August, Betr earned $614,496 in September, ranking 12th in Ohio, ahead of only betPARX and Betly.

The newcomer, who was primarily a microbetting and DFS operator, fell nearly $10,000 in adjusted earnings to $100,000.

The crowded sports betting state will soon see more companies popping up, as Prague bookmaker Oddin.gg recently did. received a sports betting license from the Ohio Casino Control Commission.
