Study reveals new data from Ford Amphitheater

COLORADO SPRINGS — As we’ve previously reported, the noise level at the Ford Amphitheater on Colorado Springs’ north side has upset many people who live near it.

Now a new study on concert noise has been published.

An independent study commissioned by the City of Colorado Springs provides noise levels at three concerts at the Ford Amphitheater in October. The study measured decibel levels both inside the event venue and in surrounding areas.

The study found that indoor sound levels did not exceed 110 decibels for more than five minutes at a time.

The city granted the amphitheater a special noise permit allowing for higher noise levels. Noise levels in areas near the event ranged from 42 to 69 decibels, with sound coming from concerts and traffic.

But for Steve Kyoanas, who lives two miles from the amphitheater, the report’s findings aren’t enough.

“It missed out on thousands and thousands of residents living in the north and outside of the city immediately north of the venue, so it did not reach the entire affected population who complained about the noise from every concert that ever took place at the venue.” – he said. said.

The report says wind and temperature affect sound propagation, and the owners plan to create a large sound wall at the rear of the site.

Robert Mudd, Venu’s senior vice president of construction and market expansion, said: “We’re not going to build a wall just to try to demonstrate good faith. We want to build a wall that will actually impact the nature of what people experience.”

For Steve, noise levels are still the biggest problem.

“This should not affect homes that have young children, people with PTSD, veterans, traumatic brain injuries, animals, where they were occupied for hours on end at night, school nights, work nights for four or five people. days and nights,” he told News5.

VENU studies noise levels throughout the concert season. This final report will present data from each concert, as required by the development plan. I was told that the plan would be published in ten days.
