With the election hanging in the balance, former President Donald Trump touched down in Macomb County on Friday night.

The Republican candidate held a rally at Macomb Community College in Warren. He appeared singing “God Bless the USA” and took the podium with the crowd chanting “USA!”

Trump, who won Macomb County in elections in 2016 and 2020, indicated that “we’re going down,” telling an enthusiastic crowd that the rallies would hopefully end with him retaking the Oval Office over Democrat Kamala Harris on Tuesday.

“We’ll miss these rallies, won’t we?” – he said to the crowd.

Candidate Trump made numerous stops in Macomb County, visiting the Macomb Community College field house, as he did Friday, as well as the football dome in Washington Township and what is now known as the Michigan Lottery Amphitheater at Freedom Hill County Park in Sterling -Heights.

On Friday, Trump addressed the usual topics, including the economy and immigration at the southern border.

“This is all you need to know: Kamala, who is completely incompetent, I will fix it. We will fix this quickly,” he said.

Trump went on to tell the crowd not to believe the polls, which he said show him far ahead. He then insulted Harris by mispronouncing her name, unlike the first part of the event where he pronounced it correctly.

As he has promised at other venues, Trump went on to tell the crowd that under his administration, energy costs, “job-killing” regulations and inflation will be cut. Much of the rest of his speech focused on disparaging President Joe Biden and Harris. He also had harsh words for UAW President Sean Fain.

Brian Pannebecker, a former Macomb County auto worker who founded a group called Auto Workers for Trump, was also brought to the stage and received a compliment from the former president before speaking about the auto industry.

During recent stoppages, Trump derided his opponent’s handling of the economy as “stupid” and said the stock market would crash if he lost the election, even though the S&P 500 stock index is up about 50% during President Joe Biden’s administration.

“We will give our companies the lowest taxes, lowest energy costs, lowest regulatory burden and free access to the best and largest market on the planet,” Trump said at a rally on Tuesday in Allentown, Pennsylvania. “The problem is if more of these idiots ran our country, you wouldn’t have a bigger and better market anymore because our nation is in decline.”

Harris’ team’s efforts include connecting the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol to the history of Trump, who used the platform to attack the Federal Reserve as well as companies such as Amazon, Merck, Comcast, John Deere and Toyota. Their argument is that companies are less likely to make long-term investments if democratic values are under attack and election results are denied.

Trump’s Friday visit was his 15th stop in Michigan since February.
