Meeting with Washington QB Jayden Daniels requires a coordinated effort

Washington commanders won the NFL draft by taking quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Through eight weeks, no team has surprised or impressed more than the Daniels-led team. Commanders who seemingly single-handedly made the team must-see TV every weekend.

Certainly, Washington knows this isn’t a one-man show, but that doesn’t make it any less important for the New York Giants to focus their efforts on stopping Daniels if they have any hopes of upsetting the NFC East division leader on Sunday.

“I feel like we need to be coordinated. We all have to hustle together,” Giants outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari said this week about meeting with Daniels. New York Giants on SI. “We all have to be on the same page when trying to approach him. I don’t mean that we should run scared or anything like that. We know what he’s capable of. We just need to hurry. coordinated.”

Ojulari had three tackles against Washington in his first start against Daniels’ team, and New York’s defense sacked the rookie five times.

Daniels also rushed for 44 yards on 10 rushes and completed 23 of 29 pass attempts for 226 yards in the three-point win over a division foe.

Even though the Giants as a whole are at the bottom of the division and at the bottom of the league, their individual defense is better than the sum of the team.

The pass rush alone has been elite, and New York sacks opposing defenders just over 15 percent of the time they drop back to pass.

Meanwhile, the Commanders allow just over seven percent of their player departures to be sacked, ranking roughly in the middle of the league.
