Rep. Pease meets constituents’ needs and deserves re-election (letter)

Hello, I would like to express my support for the re-election of State Representative Kelly Pease on November 5th. Representative Pease is an active member of our community and invests in many community events throughout the year. I have spoken with several people who have contacted his office regarding issues related to unemployment, driver’s license renewals, handicapped license plates and many others. Everyone was very satisfied with the response and the results they received. In my opinion, Kelly Pease does an excellent job representing our community locally and in Boston.

I don’t know Councilor Bridget Matthews-Kane very well, but she came to my house and we got to talking. I am very enthusiastic about the new sports complex that Westfield G&E has agreed to pay for. My daughter, Megan Moran, runs track and field and broke most of the records during her four years at Westfield High School. Now, to put things into perspective, my daughter practiced running through the hallways of her high school because the tracks are in such bad shape. It is shameful that in a community like Westfield, our children have to run through the hallways because we can’t provide them with a decent track to exercise properly.

Since Councilwoman Matthews-Kane was the only vote on the council against supporting greenfield bonds that would be paid for by G&E and not raise our property taxes, I asked her why. She said she thought that was too much of an amount with no guarantee that G&E would make future payments. I reminded her that G&E has an elected board and if they don’t follow through on the agreement they could be voted out. She said they are still negotiating the amount and she believes a lower number would be better, although it would mean the girls softball field would not be ready. We ended it with a promise to send an email with a proposal on how best to fund the fields.
