Authorities are searching for a possible explosive device in Stillwater.

On Saturday morning, authorities searched the hotel and vehicle for a possible explosive device.

The search began after an arrest by Oak Park Heights Police Department officers, according to authorities.

The department said they arrested a 46-year-old man on Highway 36 who did not have a driver’s license or insurance on the vehicle.

However, authorities later learned that the car may have contained homemade explosives.

The St. Paul Bomb Squad was called to clear the vehicle as well as the Stillwater hotel where the man was staying.

The Stillwater Police Department said a bomb squad was working to clear the vehicle and the hotel.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, they found several “suspicious items” and will be examining them in the coming days to determine what they are.

Stillwater police said there is no known threat to the public at this time and believe the area is safe and the suspect remains in custody at the Washington County Jail.

ATF is assisting in the investigation.
