Tim Kaine made a surprise appearance on SNL with host John Mulaney

Tim Kaine, the Democratic senator from Virginia and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 running mate, made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Kane was stumped:SNL” master John Mulaney in a sketch on the quiz show What’s It’s Name: Select Edition when Mulaney’s character was asked to identify him.

“You voted to put me one step away from the Oval Office in an election later than Zootopia.” What’s my name? – Kane said.

Mulaney, as quiz contestant Ben, gave an emotional response and pointed out the similarities between Kaine and the current Democratic vice presidential contender, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz: “It’s not my fault. If only he were a more memorable guy like Tim Walz. This sounds a lot like Tim Waltz. Let’s look at them side by side. Not only does he look like Tim Waltz, his name was Tim too. His name was actually Tim.

Kane replied: “My name is still Tim. I exist. I am a senator representing Virginia.”

The sketch also featured an SNL regular as a contestant named “Margaret.” By the end of the sketch, it was revealed that she was playing Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, famous for the influential dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale.

Mulaney’s character is upset when asked to name a victim of police brutality other than George Floyd. He turns on “What’s It’s Name” host Michael Longfellow to criticize the show. “Why don’t you use your platform to solve a real problem? You realize that if Donald Trump wins, we will be living in a real-life version of The Handmaid’s Tale. “

Sherman as Atwood then chimes in: “Sorry to interrupt… If you read this book, you’d see that we’re essentially halfway there.” When Mulaney’s Ben tries to brush off the comment, the host explains, “This woman is the author of The Handmaid’s Tale.” “

The Nov. 2 episode will mark Mulaney’s sixth time hosting the NBC late-night program. In 2022, the comedian was inducted into the elite “Five O’Clock Club” for those who have hosted the show five or more times.

Mulaney worked at “SNL” from 2008 to 2013 as a writer. During this time, he appeared little on air. He first appeared in April 2010 on “Weekend Update,” in which he advocated for year-round cookie sales for Girl Scouts.

Over the years, Mulaney has become known for appearances in sketches such as “The Lobster Bar,” “Subway Churro,” “Airport Sushi” and “Cha-Cha Slide,” according to NBC.

Mulaney’s star has risen over the past decade thanks to a series of successful Netflix comedy programs, including All in L.A. and Baby J.
