For over a century, the power struggle of Bawku chiefs has plagued the northern region of Ghana, but Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as “Cheddar,” has found a long-term solution. A social media post by Edhub on their X platform showed Cheddar addressing the general public in a calm and collected manner. The head of the New Force movement expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s leadership, saying that for many years the problem has existed, not a single leader has found a solution. However, he believes his strategy could settle the dispute for good.
Bediako addressed the public in a speech, outlining his plan to use family ties to bridge the gap between the two groups and solve their problem. “I will bring a princess from Bauku and a prince from Walewale, and then I will create a family out of them,” were his words. Its main purpose is to unite members of two warring factions, such as getting people from both sides married.
Reaction to Bediako’s plan was mixed, with some arguing that it should be adopted because it was both practical and symbolic of healing, while others questioned its viability. However, his idea is consistent with the broader goal of addressing one of Ghana’s most pressing social problems and demonstrates how creative and unconventional approaches can be used to resolve long-standing disputes.
