“Don’t regret playing that shot,” Rohit says of his shot choice in the Mumbai Test.

Mumbai, November 3 (IANS): India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday admitted his shot selection was not up to par in the third Test against New Zealand but said he has no regrets and will continue to play the shot in an attempt to shift the pressure to the bowlers.

Rohit started batting aggressively as India chased the 147-run target. He hit two fours before being out on 11, trying to take a shot, came late and was caught near midwicket by Glenn Phillips.

Rohit said he is trying to put pressure on the bowlers and will continue to use this shot as it has helped him in the past.

“The shot selection in this particular match was not up to par, starting with me. The only thing I would say is that when you have a target like this, you want to try and put pressure on the bowlers. You can’t allow bowlers to play in one particular place. You should try to do something about it.

“But yeah, I will say I made a bad shot. But I don’t regret it, honestly, because it brought me a lot of success in the past. So I will continue to do that,” Rohit Sharma said. .

“I accept the fact that we haven’t handled the bat well enough throughout the series. A lot of good things also happened with the bat during the series.

“But yes, in the first two Test matches we felt very, very behind in the first innings and then New Zealand took the lead in the game which cost us those games. And even now I thought that for 147 I needed to catch up. But yeah, we just didn’t play good enough defensively. We didn’t prove ourselves. A lot of mistakes were made,” the India captain said.

Rohit admitted he hasn’t done much defending this series but said he hasn’t spent enough time in the middle to protect the ball.

He said that as a rookie, he would like to set the tone for the innings and therefore try to play aggressively.

“So sometimes when new guys come in they set the tone and sometimes you can fall on the other side of it. And in this series I fell to the other side, but I don’t see myself losing. faith in my defense.

“I just need to spend more time protecting balls, which I haven’t done in this series, and I admit I haven’t batted very well in this series. But yeah, look, it was just these two series that I ran out of time in the middle of the series that I played before Bangladesh, I spent a lot of time,” Rohit said.

“As you grow, you try to develop, and I’m also trying to develop as a batter to try to see what more I can do. So I will review my game and see what I can do best,” he added.

The captain will have to evaluate all these points in the next couple of weeks before leaving for Australia.
