Ruud van Nistelrooy is yet to discuss his future at Manchester United with new manager Ruben Amorim.

Ruud van Nistelrooy remains unsure of his future at Manchester United as he continues his interim spell in charge following a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and awaits talks with new manager Ruben Amorim. The draw provided some respite from United’s difficult season, although it only moved them to 13th in the Premier League table with 12 points.

Van Nistelrooy, who took over after Erik ten Hag’s sacking, said he had not yet spoken to Amorim, who is due to take charge at Old Trafford on November 11. him, which makes the Dutchman’s role at the club uncertain. Van Nistelrooy joined United as Ten Hag’s assistant this summer, but it is still unclear whether he will remain with Amorim.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s draw, Van Nistelrooy spoke about his current position: “It’s something special, I’ve enjoyed every second of it and will continue to do so for the time being. I’m here to help and will support the new manager. Everyone at the club is focused on these two games. After that, we support him and work hard to make United better every day.”

Without a final decision on his role, Van Nistelrooy suggested negotiations were likely to take place in the coming days. “I think everything will be talked about in the coming days and weeks. I’m looking forward to it,” he said. Known for his success as a former United player, Van Nistelrooy returned to the club as an assistant, putting his previous coaching ambitions on hold.

Under his temporary leadership, United showed signs of improvement, particularly in their organization and attacking play, which had suffered under Ten Hag. Bruno Fernandes’ successful penalty put United level in the match, but missed opportunities prevented them from taking all three points.

“I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get the win,” Van Nistelrooy admitted. “We had more chances. Marcus hit the post, Bruno in the last couple of minutes. Overall the players’ performance was fantastic.”

Van Nistelrooy praised the outstanding performances of Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, citing the team’s dedication and connection with the fans. “It’s a good group of players, a good group of people. They left everything on the field. You saw a connection with the fans – that’s what we’re looking for,” he added.

As Amorim prepares for his arrival, van Nistelrooy’s future remains in doubt, with the 48-year-old potentially landing a position on Amorim’s staff or elsewhere. For now, he remains focused on helping Manchester United save their season.
